I was having trouble watching some scenes on a PS4 recently, so I decided I would see if I could stream them from my PS3.
The problem was that vue just doesn’t support streaming to the PS3, it doesn’t even support PS4.
It appears that Vue is making a big deal of streaming video on this issue. In fact, they have made such a big deal of this already. They claim that they have to stream to a PS4 because Playstation Vue has no PS3 support. I don’t know if that is true, but let’s assume it is, and we’ll take their word for it.
I can’t believe that we are dealing with a major company over this issue, so I’m going to go ahead and assume that it is. The problem with Sony’s position is that they have no way of knowing if the person who is streaming is using a PS3 or a PS4. Vue is supposed to be a PS3 only service, and the streaming is supposed to be done through PS3.
I would assume that the person streaming is using a PS3. It just so happens that PS3s have a lot more channels to choose from than PS4s. I know that Vue is supposed to be a PS3 only service, but I can’t imagine that they would allow anyone who is streaming to choose channels that are not a PS3.
Sony could have simply taken the decision to block the stream. They still have the right to choose what they want to include, but there are a lot fewer options.
The issue isn’t a lack of options. It’s not that Sony doesn’t want to include channels on Vue. It’s that they don’t want to include streams. They don’t make movies, they don’t make TV shows, and they don’t make music videos either. They don’t want to make a TV show or movie with a bunch of channels.
Sony could have left the option to stream on PS3 to be a little more obvious, but they didnt. So if you want to stream something, you have to make a PS3-specific choice. Also, it wont stop you from streaming to PS3. But it will make it harder to do so when you need to do it.
The problem is that Sony is just not making anything that isn’t already available on Vue – which includes tons of TV shows, movies, and music videos. Now they could leave the option to stream on PS3, but they didnt. And it will make it harder for you to stream to PS3. But it will make it harder for you to stream to PS3. It’s just the way it is.
The other problem is that Sony will probably make it impossible to stream to PS3 if you ask them. And when they do, it will be because they can. But in the meantime, the only PS3-specific programming you will be able to do now is PlayStation 4’s native PS3 streaming.
