Today, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published an exclusive report which details the investigation into allegations that former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and his wife, Marianne, hired a Russian agent in an attempt to tamper with the investigation into her husband’s activities. The story is set to be the focus of a new documentary, called Dirty Tricks, which premieres on Showtime June 28.
According to the report, Gingrich and his wife are being investigated for allegedly arranging a private meeting between a Russian agent and a Russian national. Gingrich is accused of arranging the meeting with a Russian national who allegedly tried to harm the president, who is currently running for re-election.
The only piece of evidence against her is the testimony of a former campaign staffer who says Gingrich proposed paying a Russian national to influence the election, but he left out the part where he made the pitch. There is also the unsubstantiated claim that he paid a foreign national to help him with a speech. The president’s campaign manager, who is also a former speechwriter for the president, denied the allegations in a statement.
In the meantime, a couple of local news outlets have been speculating about the possibility of a coup attempt in the state capital. The president’s campaign manager has since said he won’t be intimidated. In the video below, the campaign manager said that Gingrich was wrong to suggest there was any “vast right-wing conspiracy” running on the left.
We’ll see just how accurate that statement is when the campaign manager shows up to a press conference to refute the president’s claims. But it seems like the right-wing conspiracy theory is alive and well in the state capital.
If you see the video below, watch it for yourself.
When you think about it, the right-wing conspiracy theorists and conspiracy buffs would be the worst kind of conspiracy buffs.
