Cuban President Raul Castro announced today that he will not seek re-election. He has vowed to continue building on the advances made under his leadership, including economic reforms and a strong commitment to democratic ideals.

The other day I posted a very interesting tweet from a Cuban man, who is close to our current president. His name is Fidel Castro. He’s the grandson of the Cuban Revolution leader, and he’s been a symbol of change for Castro’s people. It’s hard to believe that Castro’s son was a good man, but it feels like a little bit of a mistake to think that his son would be the leader of the revolution.

I think Castros father is far from a bad guy. He is a committed communist, that even his own people have now begun to question and are starting to change their view of him. In a way, its like the two of them are in a time loop, and hes going nowhere. His son is a good man. But I’m not sure if they are in a time loop, and not at all confident that one day they will wake up and change the course of history.

With all that said, I’m glad that Cubans have begun to have some of their own voices. If they are in a time loop, I hope that Cubans continue to support them.

Cubans have a long history of not being the most supportive of political dissident movements. I still remember when a group of Cuban exiles were going to attack the Soviet Union over their interference in Cuba and their economic and political control over Cuba. I told my friend that it was the biggest mistake that he was ever going to make in his life and that he would not be able to forgive himself if something like that happened again.
