I bought a new set of Bluetooth headphones from my local electronics store. I’m a big fan of wireless headphones because they are thin and compact and can connect to almost anything, including my cell phone. I wanted to see if this new pair of headphones could be connected to the computer and if they could support my wireless keyboard and mouse. I tried to connect my laptop and keyboard, and they both worked fine, but the audio wasn’t loud enough to keep me awake to a good night’s sleep.
I’m not sure what the issue is, but I would think that you would need a speaker in the headband to get the sound out. I am not a fan of wireless headphones because they usually get in your way and make it harder to use my computer. But I would definitely go with the headphones and hope they can be connected to my keyboard and mouse.
The platinum wireless headset is a new design for Platinum Wireless, a new brand for Bluetooth keyboards and mice. It comes with a 3.5 mm headset jack for audio, and a full-size USB port for charging and data transfer. I got the Bluetooth keyboard with a USB port, and the mouse with a USB port, so I’m not sure if the headset and mouse are just extra.
It’s a bit hard to say how well they work with the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but Platinum Wireless is said to be “the first Bluetooth keyboard and mouse that allows you to use any keyboard and mouse you own.” It’s supposed to have a full keyboard compatibility with third-party keyboards and mice as well as USB ports to support devices like Xbox 360 controllers. It will be available in early May, so keep an eye out.
At first blush, this seems like a good idea if you’re planning on using a third-party keyboard and mouse. But is it? We’ve seen companies like Fiiwiz and Razer release Bluetooth keyboards and mice. So it would seem that the hardware is just a gimmick, not a compelling feature.
While there are no wireless mice on the market today, there are a few wireless headsets on the market that claim to be better. The problem with these is that they are not compatible with third-party keyboards and mice. So even if you get it working, you could run into trouble trying to use it with an Xbox 360 controller or a USB keyboard. This is a problem that we will be working on if/when platinum wireless headset is released.
Platinum wireless headset is apparently compatible with third-partitioned keyboards and mice that are compatible with Microsoft’s Windows Vista, 8, and 10 operating system. But it doesn’t seem to work with the Xbox 360 controller.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a little concerned that this could cause a problem with the future of the console wars. If a third-party keyboard and mouse is going to be compatible with any of the current console systems on the market, then why not include a keyboard and mouse to go along with it? I can understand if Platinum wireless headset were to be incompatible with controllers that are compatible with Microsofts Windows Vista, 8, and 10 operating system, it would be a problem.
I don’t know if people are worried about the future of the console wars. I don’t actually have any strong opinions on this, but the fact of the matter is that the market for the new Xbox 360 is already so big that it will be a while before a third-party keyboard and mouse would be a complete game changer in the market.
If you’re a power user, then you’ll be happy to know that the Xbox 360 controller is compatible with both the new and the old versions of Windows Vista. So if you’re using Windows and you use a wireless headset, you can still be up and running with your Xbox the moment you put it on, without needing to unplug and plug it back in multiple times.
