In his book, “The Power of Habit” author Leonard Nimoy explains the concept of “habit” as simply a way of organizing our thought process, as opposed to a conscious decision by us to do something. Think of everything we do as a habit, and our thoughts will eventually mirror this. This is how we gain knowledge, memories, and skills.
Well, yes. I think we can say that habits are made up of a series of mental steps that we take in order to progress from one activity to another. For example, if you’re watching TV, you’re probably doing it subconsciously. We all do it subconsciously to a degree. So that habit of watching TV on a daily basis, watching the same episode over and over again, and so on, is a good example of habit.
There are even habits that we can learn, like how to do a particular task in a particular way. In the case of TV, we learn how to do it subconsciously. We learn how to sit in front of the TV and watch it (and other TV programs) on a regular basis. In other words, we learn the habit of sitting back, watching TV, and so on.
As for the habit of watching TV, there are actually two types of habit: one that we learn unconsciously like we sit back and watch TV, and the other that we learn consciously like we sit in front of the TV and do it. The first type of habit is called the habit of watching TV, and the second is the habit of sitting in front of the TV. So as we sit back and watch TV, we’re practicing the habit of watching TV.
The habit of sitting back in front of the TV is actually what we call a ‘fitness habit,’ and it’s just a normal way that we spend most of our time doing things like exercise, eating, shopping and so on. People with physical disabilities are so used to sitting in front of a computer/television that they don’t even realize that they’re doing it all the time.
In some ways the habit of sitting back in front of the TV is a form of meditation, because of the mental effect that it has on our body.
The habit of sitting back in front of the TV is actually what we call the classic form of meditation, because it helps us to get a little more understanding of our body, mind, and potentialities. It allows us to get a little more knowledge about our bodies from our physical surroundings. This is a part of meditation, and this is a part of self-awareness.
There’s no question in my mind that if I watch some time, my mind can become pretty receptive to a lot of things I’m not aware of. The fact that I’m watching some time is a reflection of what I’m aware of. This is a part of self-awareness, and the part of meditation that I’m not aware of is what’s called the moment.
The reason I’m here is because I’ve been trying to build up a connection to the world. I want to get the world to be my own space. This is the part of meditation that Im not aware of.
